How I Work
The first step is for us to meet and see how we get on and for you to see how I work. We do this through an initial, no obligation appointment which will last 50 minutes. If after this initial appointment we both feel happy to proceed, psychotherapy sessions are weekly and last for 50 minutes.
With the recognition that seeking therapy can be a difficult decision, during the initial appointment, we will explore what brings you to therapy and work out which therapy is most appropriate for you. I provide both short and long term psychotherapy. Short term psychotherapy is more solution focused, potentially using a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Mindfulness approach to address a particular issue. Long term psychotherapy is an opportunity to gain a deeper insight into your internal world.
Whether dealing with difficult experiences from the past or making decisions about your current life, knowing how your mind works enables you to begin to control what happens in there. Understanding how and why you react and respond the way you do can help you change unwanted behaviours and equip you with tools that are proven to reduce negative and unhelpful thought patterns. Clients regularly report back that the knowledge they gain from therapy helps them move through difficult times more quickly and to generally feel more calm and in control of themselves.
An essential ingredient for the success of this process is for me to provide you with an environment where you feel able to talk, free from any judgment or agenda. Therefore, my intention is to always listen with respect and provide an inclusive environment where you can confidently and safely explore whatever has bought you to therapy.
